Responsibility

Our Philosophy

'Design Products that are never outgrown'

We believe that well made products that last, are high quality and don't go out of style are one of the most important design considerations when thinking sustainability.

But we are not perfect.

We use EPP Foam as our table top, this is not a biodegradable material - it is a plastic and although the material is made up of over 90% air, we are aware that this material must not end up in landfill.

The Problem with Fast Furniture

Fast furniture, like fast fashion, is a concept that involves products that are produced fast and cheap and are then thrown out, often within 12 months after purchase. This leads to mass waste and consumption with over 12 millions tons of furniture thrown out each year in the United States alone.

We set out with a philosophy to combat this issue.

'Design products that are never outgrown'.

This for us meant two things:

1. Design products to a very high standard.

2. Design products that are versatile, adaptable and timeless.

What we are doing:

Modular Design

Our 100% modular table can be used in a plethora of ways - it allows the user to customise there experience depending on their environment.

100% Recyclable

Once seperated, all materials can be recycled:

EPP is Polypropylene (PP). Nothing
more is added and there are no gases involved, just air, so it can be recycled as PP (Plastic Code 5) in any standard recycling bin.

Aluminium is one of the most recycled metal in the world and our products can be recycled in any standard recycling bin.

Stainless Steel - our screws are made of stainless steel and can be easily recycled.

Mono Materials

All our products can be separated into mono materials (individual materials). This is crucial in the recycling process to allow for recycling to occur easily.

For our Air Table 1.0™ we use common screw heads to allow our customer to easily separate the foam from the aluminium and therefore recycle or repurpose individual materials.

Replace the part not the product

Our products can be disassembled and therefore if any problem arises with a particular part of the product, it can be resolved by replacing the part and not the product. See our product page for parts

What needs to be better.

Whilst we've made inroads into a circular designed business we have significant goals we are committed to. We have two major goals to achieve:

  1. Take ownership of the recycling and repurposing of our products. Currently there is no facility that recycles large volumes of EPP foam in Australia and many are uneducated to the fact that EPP Foam is a Plastic Code 5 Recyclable material
  2. Work with EPP manufacturers to move away from manufacturing products using virgin EPP. Currently there are no 100% recycled EPP products on the market.
